ASL2025 has continued to advocate for accountability and transparency in the governance of the Art Students League.
Over the past eight months we have reached out to the Board, both formally and informally, to raise issues of concern. Some issues are being addressed while others still are not. The Board has promised serious reform to the election system and appears to be willing to be more open about Board activities. We are encouraged by the Board's pledges and promises to act in a fair-minded manner, however, with just days left until Wednesday's nominations for a new Board, we only have pledges and promises.
What is needed is a list of Board-adopted resolutions which set out as policy the new protocols for fair elections and which establish a process to ensure more transparency about the Board's financial transactions and more accountability to, and input from, the members.
As there have been no concrete steps to implement the Board's promises, we believe that it is necessary to continue to advocate for the League's future and field a slate of candidates committed to enacting meaningful reform. We ask members to join the campaign for fairness, transparency and accountability.

At this time, we would like to point out just a few things we said last Fall that have since been verified by events. We said that the instructors were employees, not independent contractors, as they had been classified in past years. This statement was made as part of a complaint about instructors campaigning for the incumbent Board (The By-laws prohibit "employees" from such activity). Earlier this year, the IRS issued a determination that the instructors are in fact employees, not independent contractors.
Second, we had stated that there were serious financial improprieties that should be examined. In January, the Board hired a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to perform a comprehensive examination of the League's financial records and operations. It is our belief that when the new CFO issues an interim or final report to membership, our allegations will be proven correct.
